EUR/USD
The EUR enjoyed another good day of sun and found itself adding value. The EUR has performed well most of the week. Early this morning the German PPI data came out and showed lagging results however. The PPI figures were minus -0.4% compared to the estimated gain of 0.1%. European bourses overall have also showed a taste for more risk the past few sessions. ECB President Mario Draghi has said economic modeling for Europe appears better, but the last few days of stability and gains will no doubt start catching the attention of skeptics who still lurk. Results on borrowing from European banks via the ECB will garner attention today and Italian banks borrowing will be watched closely.
Gold
Gold finished with slight losses. The precious metal is around 1659.00 USD as of this morning. The current price level appears to be consolidating and awaiting the next round of impetus. Risk taking has been more in fashion the past few days in Forex, commodities, and equities. Going into the weekend, traders will likely weigh the potential for any surprises from Europe.
Oil
Crude Oil prices dropped yesterday. The WTI (West Texas Intermediate) continues to move in a rather opportunistic range. Crude Oil Inventories in the States showed a drop in supply yesterday, but this had little impact. Oil remains a short term trading possibility for those who have the stomach and patience to manage its gyrations.
S&P, NASDAQ, DOW
Google disappointed investors with results that underperformed, but reports from others in the corporate front actually had better than anticipated numbers. The three major indexes all were able to gain on Thursday. Data from the U.S. yesterday was less than attractive. The Philly Fed Manufacturing Index and Housing Starts were worse than forecasted. Today the States will release Existing Home Sales numbers. Risk taking has shown some signs of life the past few days and the question is if investors can show the same fortitude on Friday
